Syracuse fight off pesky Illini
Perry Patterson Jr. threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns as the Syracuse Orangemen held off a late comeback bid from Illinois to win 31-21 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
The Orangemen were 3-point underdogs to win on the road, and the 52 points scored were OVER the posted total of 39.
Patterson was 9-for-18 and tossed an interception as well. Taj Smith had five receptions for 106 yards and one score for Syracuse.
Juice Williams went 9-for-16 for 227 yards and two scores to lead the Illini, while Rashard Mendenhall had 97 receiving yards on four catches and a major for Illinois.
