New York earned a 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Sunday, but needed a shootout to do it at Madison Square Garden.

Ryan Callahan clinched the win with a shootout goal in round 2 for the Rangers. New York got goals from Rick Nash and Derek Stepan in the victory. Stepan opened the scoring at 3:35 of the third period.

Henrik Lundqvist turned in a 28-save effort for the Rangers.

Drew Stafford and Nathan Gerbe scored for the Sabres, finding the net behind Henrik Lundqvist.

Buffalo got a 26-stop effort from Ryan Miller in the loss.

On the power play, New York went 2-for-4, while the Sabres were 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

New York lost the shots on goal battle to Buffalo by a margin of 30-28.

Next game, New York takes its act home to face Philadelphia looking for another win. For Buffalo, they head on the road to face Carolina.
