Betting on a beating
Oh, there will be blood this weekend as the UFC reaches a milestone with UFC 100.
To celebrate the centennial Dana White has put together quite a card for MMA fans and bettors and it includes a pair of UFC championship bouts. Both the UFC Heavyweight and Welterweight titles will be up for grabs as as profits for those betting UFC 100 odds.
In the UFC Heavyweight Championship bout champ Brock Lesner gets a rematch with interim Heavyweight champ Frank Mir to unify the titles and settle once and for all who the best big man in the UFC is.
Lesner fought Mir in his UFC debut at UFC 81 which was held in February, 2008. Lesner took control of the fight early on with his aggressive attacks, but his inexperience led to his downfall in the fight after he left his leg vulnerable and Mir, a submission specialist pounced. Mir applied a knee bar and it was all over for Lesner 1:30 into the first round in that night of MMA wagering.
A now more experienced Lesner won’t leave himself as open this time so Mir won’t have an easy time of it. How anyone can have an easy time with 6 foot 3, 265lb monster that strikes like he’s swinging a bag of hammers is beyond me anyway. As the champion Lesner is of course the favorite at -240 at Bovada , while Mir comes in a +190. If Mir can somehow pull off another upset he would fill bettor’s pockets.
A little Canadian content
In the other title bout UFC Welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre makes his third title defense again Thiago Alves. GSP easily defended the title in his last bout by ravaging B.J. Penn in what will always be remembered as Vaseline-Gate.
If you haven’t heard of Alves you should have. He’s won his last seven fights and has incredible knockout power. All you have to do is look at his MMA record, 16-3 with 10 wins by KO, to figure that out. Alves is getting the biggest test of his career against GSP though and may find it difficult to land those heavy knockout blows. Over at Bovada he’s a big +240 underdog in the fight, while GSP is heavily favored at -300.
