April 16 Boxing Odds Preview

Two exciting fight cards are scheduled for Saturday night, and fans have six different betting options to choose from if they want to bet on boxing.

All six fights have a heavy favorite handicapped, and a couple of them are expensive safe-money bets that will require some investment for the payout.

Amir Khan (24-1) will make his long awaited return to the U.K. when he defends his WBA Junior Welterweight title against undefeated Irish contender Paul McCloskey (22-0) at M.E.N Arena in Manchester. Oddsmakers have the champion as a heavy favorite, with the cheapest price currently sitting at -1250 at Sportsbook.

Despite the heart that McCloskey has shown over his unbeaten streak he doesn’t pose a big power threat to the champ and will likely suffer his first defeat as a professional. The fight should be somewhat competitive in the early rounds, but once Khan finds his rhythm and distance he should dominate with speed.

Even with a payout of +700 at Sportsbook, an upset bet on the Irishman is not recommended.

On the same card, Matthew Macklin (28-2) will face Armenian Khoren Gevor (31-5) in a Middleweight 12-rounder. Oddsmakers have Macklin as a -300 favorite at Sportsbook, but both fighters are coming off disappointing performances and will be motivated to get things back on track. An upset line of +250 is available at Sportsbook, but it falls short in payout to be a good underdog bet choice.

Undefeated WBA International Middleweight champion Martin Murray (21-0) looks like he will have an easy night in the ring when he defends his title against relative unknown John Anderson Carvalho (21-4-1). This fight is a bit of a mismatch, and a bet on the champ looks like the safest money on the fight card.

A bet on Murray won’t come cheap, with the best line on him being -1200 at Sportsbook. If you think you can beat the odds an upset line on Carvalho will pay as much as +650 at Sportsbook. It means you have to wager $120 just to win $10 on Murray.

Also on April 16 fight fans will get another look at the undefeated WBC Welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0). He will be making his sixth consecutive title defense against MMA fighter/boxer Victor Ortiz (28-2-2). As game as Ortiz may be, he’s going to be in tough against one of the best in the world in this fight.

With a line of -400 at Sportsbook, a bet on Berto is a bargain against this opponent. The best upset line on Ortiz is at Sportsbook and will pay +350.

Other April 16 boxing odds to bet on:
Scott Quigg (-490 at Sportsbook) vs. Andrei Isaeu (+350 at Sportsbook)
Lee Purdy (+450 at Sportsbook) vs. Craig Watson (-600 at Sportsbook)
