Boxing Betting Odds: January Preview

The month of January will feature numerous world title matches for boxing betting fans. To start, on January 17 WBC Super Bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (28-0-1, 16 KO’s) will put his title on the line against Jesus Cruz (10-2) at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Santa Cruz is an undefeated champion who will look to defend his title for the fourth time, and oddsmakers at 5Dimes currently have the champ handicapped as the heavy -5000 boxing odds favorite. He should have little problem defending his title, but this one is for those of you with big bankrolls.

On January 24 Mike Alvarado (34-3, 23 KO’s) and Brandon Rios (32-2-1, 23 KO’s) will battle for the third time. Each fighter has a win and a loss so this fight will determine who wins the trilogy. Current boxing odds at 5Dimes have the fight handicapped at even money less juice at -115.

This fight is as the lines indicate, a true pick'em. We like Rios because of his superior boxing skills, as long as he doesn’t get caught like he did in their first fight.

On January 31 Heavyweights Kevin Johnson (36-6-1, 14 KO’s) and Anthony Joshua (10-0, 10 KO’s) meet for Joshua’s WBC International title. This matchup is even more lopsided than the Cruz fight. Current odds have Joshua handicapped as the -10000 favorite to continue undefeated.

Upset options on this fight are currently offering +1600 boxing odds on Johnson. His experience may be worth putting a couple of units on the upset, especially if Joshua comes into the fight overconfident. With only 10 pro fights on Joshua’s record, this could be an opportunity to get a big payday with little investment.
