Boxing Odds: August Betting Preview
Boxing odds action for the month of August will include a highly-anticipated WBO Light Heavyweight title fight between Nathan Cleverly and Sergey Kovalev. Boxing betting lines are already available on at least six prize fights scheduled for the first couple weeks of August.
On August 2 a Featherweight matchup with potential top-contender implications will go down between undefeated Javier Fortuna (21-0, 15 KOs, 1 No Contest) and the lethal Luis Franco (11-1, 7 KOs). This one promises to be a war between two hungry contenders trying to earn a title shot.
Current offerings at 5Dimes have “El Abjon” listed as a -950 favorite, while the Franco upset option will pay +625. Fortuna vows to end this fight in the early rounds so keep your eyes out for any prop options that might offer better value.
On August 9 undefeated Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KOs) will look to add former WBO Heavyweight champion Siarhie Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KOs) to his list of knockout victims when the two meet in Indio, CA.
Handicapped as a -1000 favorite at Bovada, Wilder should have an easy day at the office when the two meet. Despite the cost, Wilder is worth the risk if you have the bankroll to make it worth your while. Action on the Liakhovich upset may pay as much as +900 at 5Dimes, but that option is ill advised here.
On August 17 boxing betting fans will be treated to a closely-handicapped WBO Light Heavyweight title fight. Champion Nathan Cleverly (26-0, 16 KOs) is currently a slight boxing odds -105 underdog against the lethal punching power of Sergey Kovalev (21-0-1, 19 KOs).
The Russian challenger is a -125 favorite at 5Dimes and is sure to be the champion’s toughest challenge to date. Oddsmakers think that Cleverly will be in against too much power in Kovalev, and that he will lose his title in devastating fashion.
