Congrats to the Montreal Alouettes, who won their second straight title, but did not cover the Grey Cup odds in beating the RoughRiders.
Just like last season Montreal beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders and also like last season the game was a close one. Alouettes' WR Jamel Richardson was named the game's MVP and his 37-yard catch set up Avon Cobourne's TD run that put Montreal up for good.
For the game Robinson caught eight balls for 109 yards, which sent some CFL prop bettors home happy. His last 37-yard catch help Montreal go up 21-11 and even though the Roughriders came back to score a TD the game ended with Montreal hoisting another Grey Cup.
After the game Robinson stated, "When they called my number I said, 'It's about time. But this wasn't about me, it was about the guys in the locker-room and I did it for them."
This was the third straight Grey Cup where Robinson had over 100 receiving yards. There was some controversy heading into the game when Montreal S Etienne Boulay said that the CFL wanted Saskatchewan to win the Grey Cup and because of that put them up in a better hotel. Montreal QB Anthony Calvillo was 29/42 for 336 yards and after the game revealed he will have throat surgery to have a lesion removed.
Doctors found the lesion in the middle of the season, but said the signal caller could finish out the season. The game was a good one of the sellout crowd of 63,317 fans at Commonwealth Stadium many of which were Roughriders' fans. With Saskatchewan down by only 3 points and driving Montreal DB Billy Parker sealed the win with an INT of Riders' QB Henry Burris with 56 seconds left in the game, which was the only turnover of the game.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston were in attendance and Harper visited the Montreal locker room after the game to congratulate the Grey Cup champions.
In a statement Harper said, "On behalf of Canadians from coast to coast to coast, I would like to congratulate the Montreal Alouettes for demonstrating the grittiness and toughness necessary to become the winner of the coveted Grey Cup."
Another thrilling Grey Cup victory for Montreal and another heartbreaking loss for Saskatchewan. Will the third time be the charm for the Roughriders next season? We shall see and while the odds for the 2011 Grey Cup have not been posted yet check back to , as they always post the earliest CFL futures.
