College Basketball Betting Preview

The week in college basket begins with a huge Top 25 matchup in the Big East, as No. 12 Georgetown take on No. 5 Syracuse.

The Hoyas could be headed for a Top 10 ranking after crushing Rutgers over the weekend. Georgetown defeated the Scarlet Knights 88-63 and covered the 19-point spread. Greg Monroe had a huge game in the win, shooting 10-of-12 for 21 points with 14 rebounds and six assists.

Syracuse recorded their sixth-straight win on Saturday after getting past Marquette76-71 as an 8.5-point favorite. By failing to cover the spread the Orange had a 5-game winning streak ATS snapped. Wesley Johnson led Syracuse with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Kris Joseph added 14 points and 11 boards.

The Hoyas and the Orange split the season series last year with both winning once at home. However, Georgetown won both games ATS. The last five times Syracuse and Georgetown have clashed the home team has won SU, but the Orange have the edge ATS at 3-2.

College basketball odds – Rivalry matchups

Looking ahead to the Tuesday college basketball schedule there are a pair of rivalry games on tap in the Big Ten and the ACC.

In the Big Ten No. 6 Michigan State goes up against state rivals Michigan. The Spartans are rolling right now, having won eight-straight while going 5-3 ATS. They almost had that winning streak snapped over the weekend, but escaped with a 65-64 win over Minnesota as a 1.5-point underdog. Kalin Lucas gave the Spartans their first lead of the game late in the second half with a clutch three-pointer and led Michigan State with 22 points.

The Wolverines will be facing their third-straight ranked opponent after back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Purdue. They faced the Boilermakers on Saturday and lost 69-59 as a 13-point favorite. The Wolverines were lucky that game was even that close, as they played without leading scorer Manny Harris, who was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct in practice. Without Harris, DeShawn Sims led Michigan with 21 points and eight rebounds. There has been no word yet on whether or nor Harris will return on Tuesday night.

When the Spartans and Wolverines met up last season Michigan State won 54-42 as a 4-point road favorite. The Spartans are 8-2 SU in their last 10 versus the Wolverines, but they’re only 4-6 ATS.

In the ACC the North Carolina Tar Heels we look to snap a three-game losing against the NC State Wolfpack. The Tar Heels losing streak hit three last Wednesday after they were upset by Wake Forest 82-69 as a 6-point favorite. UNC shot only 36% in the loss and leading scorer Deon Thompson was held to 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The Tar Heels were without Ed Davis (ankle) and Tyler Zeller (foot) in the loss, but Davis could return on Tuesday.

The Wolfpack have had a rough month of January so far and haven’t won back-to-back games since December 31. On Saturday they were throttled by Maryland 88-64 as a 10-point underdog. Tracy Smith led NC State with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Javier Gonzalez added 13 points.

North Carolina had won 6-straight versus NC State, including a pair of wins last season. The Wolfpack has won only once in their last 13 matchups with UNC and they’re 5-8 ATS in those losses.
