College Basketball Top 25 betting tips

Two basketball powerhouses collide this weekend when the No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorns host the No. 10 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday.

Texas has gotten through the season unscathed so far at 9-0 (6-1 ATS), but they haven’t faced much stiff competition and Tar Heels are their first ranked opponent. North Carolina, 8-2, has had a tougher road so far with games and losses to Syracuse and Kentucky already under their belts.

The Longhorns are coming off an easy win over Texas Pan American which was off the board. Texas destroyed the Broncs 104-42 in dominating fashion. The Longhorns hit 53 percent from the field, including 40 percent from three-point range, while holding the Broncs to 23 shooting. Texas also outrebounded them 59-25, which included 22 offensive boards.

Despite the rout, no Texas player put up huge numbers, as the ball was spread around and the starters didn’t see a whole lost of minutes with the game well in hand. Avery Bradley led the Longhorns with 18 points and Jordan Hamilton had 15 point and seven boards.

When North Carolina takes the court on Saturday it will be after a week-long break. The Tar Heels last game was on December 12 against Presbyterian. They easily took care of the Blue Hose 103-64. Ed Davis led UNC with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Deon Thompson chipped in with 19 points.

North Carolina won handily despite missing Marcus Ginyard (foot) and Dexter Strickland (hamstring). Ginyard’s injury could be a reoccurrence of a foot injury that lingered and hampered him most of last season. If that’s the case he may be out again on Saturday.

Strickland’s injured his hamstring in practice, but the Tar Heels are hoping the week off will be enough to get him back on the court Saturday.

The Tar Heels and Longhorns haven’t met up since 2004 when they clashed in the NCAA tournament. UNC was a 1-point favorite in that game, but Texas came out on top 78-75.

College basketball odds – No. 1 Jayhawks battles Michigan

Also on tap this weekend the No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks look to remain perfect when host the inconsistent Michigan Wolverines.

Kansas hit 9-0 last weekend after ripping La Salle 90-65. The Jayhawks were a 22.5-point favorite at Bovada and were able to cover the large spread. The win boosted their ATS season record up to 4-2. Kansas clobbered the Explorers despite an off-night from second-leading scorer Sherron Collins. He shot only 1-of-12 for five points in the loss. Xavier Henry picked up the slack with a season-high 31 points.

The Wolverines defeated Detroit 75-64 as a 12-point favorite last time out. By failing to cover the point spread Michigan fell to 1-5 ATS. Even worse for Michigan fans that was only the Wolverines’ second win in their last six games.

Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims were responsible for more than 50% of the Wolverines points in the win, as Harris netted 27 and Sims poured in 23.
