Colts are dogs in Week 9 Opening odds

The Colts did not look good in the second half at Tennessee, but oddsmakers think it looks good that they can win at home against the Patriots this week. Indy opened as 5-point home chalk to the Pats, who got a solid performance from Matt Cassel in beating the Rams.

As always, watching the opening odds is crucial to winning more NFL bets. As money is bet each week, the line will move up or down, so if you think you can find line value Tuesday, bet it right away. If you think the odds will become more favorable late in the week, hold off and get a better number.

On Monday night the Colts gave up 31 points to the Titans, a team not known for its offense. Indianapolis is having problems on defense, as they simply cannot stop the run. (We won our wager at BetOnLine.com in this game). [custom:betonline]

The Patriots have won two games in a row and beat a hot Rams team last week. Yeah, I said ‘hot’ and ‘Rams’ in the same sentence. The Pats have the 14th ranked defense in the league and they will jump all over the weak offensive line of the Colts.

The Colts have not looked like themselves this season, by a long shot, and the odds on the Pats may get better. So if you want to bet the Pats, take the line now before it creeps up to +4.5 or +4.

Last week, the Bengals were routed by the Texans, who easily covered the spread. This week, Jacksonville comes to Cincinnati. Who is going to bet on a winless team that has the 22nd-ranked defense and an offense that ranks dead last in the league?

I’m pretty sure in saying not many. Because of this, the line may move up for the Jaguars, even though they are already favored by 8.5 points. If you want to bet the Jags, take the line now, as there is a good chance it will move up.

The Titans beat the Colts on Monday night and covered the 4-point spread. The Titans have the 4th ranked defense in the league and are undefeated. Green Bay had a bye week last week heading into this game.

The Packers have the 17th ranked defense and are especially weak in stopping the run. That is not good, as the Titans strength on offense is their rushing attack led by rookie Chris Johnson (626 yds), who is the 5th leading rusher in the NFL.

The line may go up for the Titans, as the majority of the general public will not bet against an undefeated team when they are playing at home. If you want to bet on the Titans take the line now. The total might be an interesting play here as Tennessee tries to abuse Green Bay on the ground.
