Cotton Bowl Odds Preview

The Cotton Bowl pits the Oklahoma State Cowboys against the Ole Miss Rebels, who have a legit offense led by early season Heisman candidate QB Jevan Snead, which is why Cotton Bowl odds makers at Bovada have the Rebels as 3-point favorites.

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Ole Miss Rebels -3 O/U 50.5

Ole Miss (8-4 5-5 ATS) lost their last game of the season to in-state rival Mississippi State, but had won their previous three games. The Rebels were 1-1 against teams ranked in the top 25 this season.

The Rebels played a tough schedule, as they faced seven teams this season that are playing in post-season bowls. The offense of the Rebels ended the season on fire averaging 33 points per game in their last four games so it is not surprising that they are 3-point favorites at Bovada even they are not ranked and OSU is ranked 19th.

Oklahoma State (9-3 5-5-1 ATS) looked like they were well on their way to playing in a BCS bowl game, but they were smoked in their last game by Oklahoma 27-0 in their season finale.

Before that loss the Cowboys had won their previous three games and they were 1-1 against ranked teams this season.

Oklahoma State has the nation’s 28th ranked offense and 7th ranked defense and Ole Miss has the nation’s 42nd ranked offense and 24th ranked defense.

Ole Miss is 7-2 with six straight wins in bowl games when facing Big 12 opponents and they're 3-1 in the Cotton Bowl. This is the 4th straight season that Oklahoma State has played in a bowl game.

Mississippi is led by QB Jevan Snead (2,464 yds 20 TD 17 TD), who was mentioned for the Heisman before the season began. His main target of Shay Hodge had over 1,000 receiving yards this season and he averaged over 16 yards per reception.

The Rebels’ rushing attack, which is ranked 33rd in the nation, is led by RB Dexter McCluster, who in this game may become the first SEC player ever with 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving.

He will have a hard time running the ball against a OSU defense that held opponents to an average of 87.7 yards per game on the ground, which the sixth-lowest mark in the FBS.

Oklahoma has a well-balanced offense, as they can air it out with QB Zac Robinson (1,966 yds 15 TD 8 INT) and pick up yards on the ground with RB Keith Toston (1,177 yds 11 TD). Toston was second in the Big 12 averaging 98.1 rushing yards per game and he averaged an impressive 5.4 yards per carry this season. Robinson may have a big game, as even though the Rebels have a solid defense they are much better against the run than the pass.
