Daytona Shootout Preview and Odds

Jimmie Johnson begins his quest to win his fifth straight Sprint Cup championship series this Saturday in the Daytona Shootout, but he does not have the best odds to win, as NASCAR odds makers have Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch as the favorites.

This year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup season begins this Saturday with the Budweiser Daytona Shootout from Daytona International Speedway, with Daytona 500 odds following quickly behind at top sportsbooks such as Bovada.

This is an exhibition race that includes the drivers from the Chase for the Champions from last season, the winners of the Coke Zero 500, Daytona 500, the Budweiser Shootout, the pole winners from last season, and the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year.

The Daytona Shootout is a 2-segment race and in the first segment the drivers will race for 25 laps and after an intermission of 10 minutes there is another 50 laps to determine the winner.

Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart, who has won this event three times, are the favorites to win this race, as Bovada has them at 7/1. Busch has never won the Daytona Shootout, but he did win the Daytona 500 a couple years back in 2008 and in four of the shootouts he finished in the top 5.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is at 8/1 at Bovada and he has won this shootout in 2003 and 2008 and he has won two events on this track. In his career Daytona has treated him well, as in 20 career races there he has finished in the top 10 11 of 20 times.

Bovada has Jeff Gordon at 8/1 and he does have two wins in this event, but it was awhile back in 1994 and 1997. He has raced in 34 events at Daytona International Speedway and has 6 wins and finished in the top 10 in half of the races there (17).

Jimmy Johnson is at 8/1 at Bovada and he has won the Sprint Cup Championships for four straight years. He won this event back in 2005 and in his career he has raced at Daytona International Speedway 16 times and he has finished in the top 10 nine times.
