Duke favored big at St Johns

Duke is having a devil of a time finding some consistency this season and the ninth-ranked Blue Devils need to cover 12 points tonight when they visit St. Johns. In other action involving Top 25 school, Washington and UCLA battle for the top of the Pac 10 odds list.

College basketball lines - No. 9 Duke Blue Devils -11.5 (20-5 7-4 ACC) at St. Johns Red Storm (12-13 3-10 Big East)

Online sportsbook installed the Blue Devils as 11.5-point road favorites in this game. (Check the latest NCAAB line moves during the day at

St. Johns has struggled this year, as they are under .500 and only 3-10 in the Big East. It does not get any easier as tonight they play the 9th ranked Blue. Even though the Red Storm have lost four games in a row, Duke is also struggling, as they have lost two in a row and four of their last six.

The Blue Devils lead the ACC in scoring defense (63.4 ppg), but in their two game losing streak they have allowed opponents to shoot 56.6% from the floor. Find your own {URL=}NCAAB betting trends in the trend sheet.{/URL}

The Blue Devils only really need to worry about containing Paris Horne (15 ppg) and D.J. Kennedy (12.6 ppg), as beyond those guys the Red Storm do not have a lot of scoring options.

For the Red Storm to have any chance in this game, they have to contain Kyle Singler (16.4 ppg 8.1 ppg) and not allow the Dukies to bomb from 3-point land.

These teams have played every year for the past 11, and in the last five games Duke has dominated going 5-0 and winning by an average margin of 18.4 ppg.

Look for the Blue Devils to back on track against a much inferior Red Storm team, as they will dominate on both ends of floor and easily win this game and cover the spread.

College basketball lines - No. 19 Washington Huskies (19-6 10-3 Pac 10) at No. 15 UCLA Bruins -8 (19-6 8-4 Pac 10) opened the Bruins as 8-point home favorites in this Pac 10 battle.

This is a matchup of teams heading in different directions, as the Bruins have lost two games in row and the Huskies have won three in a row and 17 of their last 20. At least the game is at Pauley Pavilion, where the Huskies have won only one time in their last 22 games.

Tonight the Bruins will have to hit the glass hard and not allow Huskies’ forward Jon Brockman (14.9 ppg 11.1 rpg) to dominate the lane. Brockman ranks in the top 10 in the nation in rebounding and is the active leader in double-doubles (54).

Bruins’ Center Alfred Aboya, who leads UCLA with 5.6 rebounds per game, missed this week’s practice due to illness, but is expected to play tonight. They will really need his inside presence tonight.

For the Huskies to pull of the upset in La La land tonight, they will have to play good perimeter D on Bruins guard Darren Collison, who leads UCLA in points, assists, and steals.

Washington has won six of their last 8 games against UCLA. Look for the Bruins to get back on track in front of the home crowd, but for this to be a close game and for the Huskies to cover the spread.
