Game of Thrones Odds: What Will Happen in Season 8?

CAUTION: This article is dark and full of spoilers. If you haven't finished season 7 of Game of Thrones yet, look away. You've been warned.

When you play the game of thrones, you live or you die. When you watch “Game of Thrones,” you periodically yell at your television and feel like your heart is going to beat out of your chest at least five times per episode. When you bet on “Game of Thrones,” you mix in the thrill of winning money with the best show on television.

Season 7 of the critically acclaimed fantasy series is in the books, and the entire “Thrones” universe is already dreading the long wait until it returns for what’s sure to be an epic eighth and final season. To appease the massive following the show has accumulated over the years, online sportsbook Sportsbook has released odds on what’s going to play out in Westeros when all is said and done.

The shop is offering odds on who will kill Cersei Lannister, whether or not another one of Daenerys’ dragons will die, which brother will win the long-rumored “Clegane Bowl,” how many viewers will tune in for the season 8 series premiere and, most importantly, who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the series-concluding episode.

The importance (and conflict) of family has always been a central theme in “Game of Thrones,” and it was extremely evident in season 7’s finale. Whether it was Arya and Sansa conspiring to (finally) kill the wily Littlefinger, Cersei and Jaime having a falling-out over their future plans or Dany and Jon putting a new meaning into the term family reunion on a boat, family matters were once again at the center of the story.

That’s why I’m not sure how you could bet on anyone other than Jaime to murder Cersei. Cersei assumed the Iron Throne for herself after Tommen, her only remaining son, went skydiving without a parachute at the conclusion of season 6 and the ramifications have been huge.

Jaime clearly wasn’t on board with Cersei’s devious plan to lie about teaming up with Jon’s crew to battle the White Walkers as a collective unit and traveled north as a result. If Cersei does indeed perish, Jaime is going to have the moniker “Queenslayer” to go along with his “Kingslayer” nickname.

So, who’s going to finally claim the Iron Throne for themselves? I understand why Jon Snow (err…Aegon Targaryen) is the favorite, but this is a series where the good guys don’t normally win, and Jon is the definition of a good guy. I hate to say it, but the Night King looks like a pretty decent option. The guy can throw a javelin like an Olympian, leads a massive army of the undead and was last seen demolishing The Wall on the back of an ice dragon. I’ll take those odds for +5000, Alex.

Are the White Walkers going to end civilization as we know it? Will Dany and Jon still find each other hot after finding out they’re aunt and nephew? Will Hot Pie make another cameo? Have your say in the comment section. Valar morghulis!
