WWE Battleground Betting Odds And Prediction

The WWE takes to the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. for Battleground – the final PPV that was scheduled before the WWE brand split. The event is solid considering it is a B-level PPV and could offer some intriguing value to bettors.

Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns

The Shield triple threat match is finally happening – and sure it’s not at Summerslam or Wrestlemania, but this is the culmination of years of storytelling.

Dean Ambrose is the champion people want but has two major factors working against him. First, Ambrose won the belt clean on Smackdown this week. If the WWE keeps their 50/50 booking that they have largely defined results by then Ambrose winning is unlikely.

Second factor working against Ambrose? He is on Smackdown. Let’s face it, Smackdown was hosed in the brand split with the roster looking like the little brother once again. The WWE’s biggest belt is not going to be on the B-show.

That leaves Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. With Reigns reportedly in the doghouse after failing his drug test last month, that leaves Rollins as the only logical choice in my opinion.

Prediction: Seth Rollins

Is It Worth Betting?  Yes. Every one of these wrestlers offers some pretty good value to bettors – especially Rollins and Reigns. Even if you think Ambrose will win, his line is not too inflated at all.

John Cena, Enzo and Cass vs The Club

This match is nothing more than a placeholder to keep John Cena and AJ Styles feuding for a match at Summerslam. Cena and Styles will very likely be competing in the Smackdown main event feud for the next little while – maybe in the finals of a tournament to crown a new top champ for the blue brand.

This match has lost some of its luster with The Club being split up during the brand split – Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows have gone to Raw while Styles is on Smackdown. Logically, a reunion between Gallows and Anderson and former Bullet Club leader Finn Balor makes the most sense on that brand, which would give the duo a fresh start.

That means that The Club being pinned - as long as it's not AJ - doesn't overly hurt them in the grand scheme.

Prediction: John Cena, Enzo and Cass

Is It Worth Betting? There is not much value taking the faces in this one. I could see the potential that Balor interrupts the match to help The Club pick up the victory – thus making the faction a powerful force on both brands – but that is likely more fantasy booking on my part.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

Boy, did the WWE miss the boat by not splitting these guys up. This could have been a massive blowoff match that could lay the groundwork for a future feud in the main event. Now, it is just a match that will be marvelously worked, but might not offer a ton of payoff.

There seemed to be a big deal made out of Kevin Owens being drafted late during the brand split. That could be the crux for a newer, more lethal side of Owens that could culminate with a title run.

A Zayn win is a realistic possibility – it would give the face a happy ending – but Owens needs a win more to make him look imposing.

Prediction: Kevin Owens

Is It Worth Betting: To me, this bout is a stay-away. Guessing who the WWE goes with in this bout is incredibly difficult because it doesn’t really seem like they know where this feud is going. They just know these two have magic when working together, but haven’t necessarily invested enough to flush it out. The line being this close means books don’t know either.

The Miz vs Darren Young

For all the crap he gets from the IWC, The Miz has been one of the most consistent midcard heels in years. He still generates heat and his current run is arguably one of his best during his tenure with the WWE.

That being said, the WWE needs to capitalize on the popularity they are generating with Darren Young. After years and years of being mishandled, Young has found a connection with the crowd, thanks to the ageless wonder that is Bob Backlund.

Another fluke victory for Young would keep this feud going into Summerslam – something both wrestlers need to remain relevant.

Prediction: Darren Young

Is It Worth Betting? Despite being the favorite, the only way I see The Miz winning this is if the creative team just stopped even trying. Young is offering fantastic value for both creative and bettors.
