WWE Money in the Bank Betting Odds And Predictions

With WWE Money In The Bank quickly closing in, the event still holds plenty of intrigue for fans of wrestling. Both the MitB matches have competitive fields and have plenty of participants that could end up carrying their respective briefcase. Let’s take a look at the odds as of Friday, and see if there is value for bettors.

WWE Championship Money In The Bank

The final image on Smackdown this week was Shinsuke Nakamura standing atop a ladder, standing tall and holding the MitB briefcase. Which, all WWE fans know, seemingly taking him out of the running to win the ladder match Sunday. Though Nakamura winning and immediately placing himself in the main event of WrestleMania would be awesome, it’s also clear that ‘The King Of Strong Style’ doesn’t really need the briefcase to ensure a main event spot.

The odds-on favorite leading up to the event has been Baron Corbin. Corbin’s character fits well with the idea of the MitB briefcase, a lone wolf who simply looks out for himself. It would also certainly help vault him that final step into the main event picture with a potential title run.

As time has gone one, it seems like the WWE is investing time to at least make Sami Zayn appear like a viable threat. It would be a change of pace, as it has been five years since someone won the briefcase and let their opponent know ahead of time they were cashing in. With Zayn being a face, this could be a good path for him and offers WWE creative with some different storytelling options throughout the remainder of the summer.

Prediction: Baron Corbin (-215)

Smackdown Women’s Champions Money In The Bank

The first ever women’s MitB match is another important landmark in the legitimization of women’s wrestling within the WWE. It will also go a long way to building secondary storylines into the division aside from just the title picture. Though there was little time devoted to this match on Smackdown this previous week, this MitB still holds a lot of intrigue.

Most people seem to think that Carmella is the favorite to win this match, and so do sportsbooks. It makes plenty of sense: Naomi is currently a face champion plus Carmella and James Ellsworth have legitimate heel heat with the fans. An assisted win in the MitB from Ellsworth would certainly garner a loud reaction from the fans and help build ‘The Princess of Staten Island.’

The only other logical choice, in my mind, would be Becky Lynch. Currently, the top of the entire women’s division within the WWE is face heavy. There are very few heels to challenge the top faces, outside Alexa Bliss, on either Raw or Smackdown. Having Lynch win the briefcase and using that as a catalyst for a heel turn, have her act like CM Punk after he cashed in the MitB the first time, could be a boon for the ‘Lasskicker.’

Prediction: Becky Lynch (+500)

Who ends up taking down the Money in the Bank briefcase on June 18 will be extremely telling as to where the WWE storytelling is going in the coming months. This time around, we are going to see two Money in the Bank matches at the event including the first ever women's MitB.

WWE Championship Money In The Bank

There is a legitimate argument to be made for almost all of the participants in the MitB, sorry Dolph. Early odds are on Baron Corbin to win the ladder match and it might make the most sense. Corbin has been sniffing around the main event scene for a while and the WWE has been slowly building his momentum. Giving Corbin the briefcase would legitimize his main event status, help solidify his lone wolf status and also give him the potential to get massive heel heat down the line.

The second-best odds currently belong to Kevin Owens. KO has proven to be a capable and versatile champion during his run with the WWE Universal Championship on Raw. It would be interesting to see Owens win the briefcase while also being the current U.S. champion. With the main event scene on Smackdown not being very deep, having one dominant champ holding both belts might be interesting.

Though he’s far down the oddsboard, many hard-core fans are pulling for Shinsuke Nakamura. The former NXT champion has been solid since coming to Smackdown but hasn’t exactly hit his stride yet. Putting the briefcase on Nakamura could be the first step in showing a wider audience that the Japanese import is a big deal and it could also, potentially, if we are lucky, lead to a match between him and AJ Styles at WrestleMania.

My early prediction bounces between Corbin and Nakamura. The WWE is clearly high on Corbin and the title picture is in dire need of legit heels (no, Jinder Mahal doesn’t count). That being said, Nakamura is 37 and has superstar written all over him, meaning the WWE might want to capitalize on his talent sooner rather than later. Plus, with NJPW’s foray into the North American market, having a former IWGP heavyweight champion as the top guy could be a way to draw a few more eyes.

Smackdown Women's Championship Money in the Bank

The Smackdown women's division is slowly starting to come into its own and show some real depth. Who wins this match is anyone's guess right now and there is a proper argument to have any of these women carry the briefcase.

The current favorite, to the shock of some, is Carmella. Despite still being green in the ring, Carmella is compelling on the mic and she very much knows who her character is. Watching James Ellsworth follow The Princess of Staten Island around carrying her briefcase could make for some entertaining promos until she decides to cash-in. If the WWE intends to build the depth of this division, even more, this is likely the choice with the likes of Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair already cemented as threats to the title.

Speaking of Lynch, the Irish Lass-kicker has the second-best odds to win the belt. There is no doubt that Lynch deserves to carry the briefcase, there is no doubt that the briefcase tends to work better on a heel who can use it opportunistically. This could be a catalyst for Lynch to turn heel down the line but the division is lacking true faces and taking her from that role may be disastrous.

All and all, I think this is best served to go to one of the more unexpected talents in the field. Either Carmella, Natalya or Tamina could do good things with the briefcase and help build a dominant heel force for the next year in the division. My initial lean tells me that it is going to be Carmella but I wouldn't be surprised if Natalya picked up the win either.
