2016 British Grand Prix Preview and Odds

Lewis Hamilton Mercedes Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Following his exciting win at the Austrian Grand Prix, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton will now bid for his third straight British Grand Prix victory as the Formula 1 season moves to Silverstone this weekend.

Hamilton has won three career checkered flags at Silverstone and a win Sunday would tie him with the great Nigel Mansell in second place for career wins at the hallowed circuit. He got his weekend off to a great start as he qualified for the pole Saturday.

Online shop Bovada is presently offering Hamilton at -225 as he tops the board ahead of Saturday’s qualifying. Nico Rosberg, Hamilton's Mercedes teammate and points leader, comes in at +300.

The win in Spielberg moved Hamilton to within 11 points of Rosberg (153-142) as the Mercedes drivers sit atop the drivers’ standings. The rivalry between Rosberg and Hamilton is beginning to heat up as the pair bumped on the final lap in Spielberg with the German suffering damage to his front wing and subsequently finishing fourth. Both drivers pointed the finger at the other in the aftermath of the altercation and it gives F1 fans a delicious narrative as we approach the midway point of the 2016 season.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who is presently being offered at +1100 after qualifying third on the grid, continues to impress in his new seat. The young Dutchman finished second in Austria and was voted “driver of the day” after starting eighth on the grid. In five races with his new team, Verstappen has one win, one second-place finish and one fourth-place finish.
