Can Mercedes win the 2023 Hungary GP?

2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Odds: Can Mercedes Take It?

Max Verstappen controls the F1 standings with eight wins and 10 podium finishes. He's so far ahead of the field that you can't even get odds for him to win the F1 Championship.

For every race going forward, Verstappen is going to be the favorite. For the Hungarian GP, the Red Bull phenom is listed as the -300 favorite. Teammate Sergio Perez is next on the odds board at a distant +1000.

F1 Hungary GP Odds: No Surprise to See Verstappen As Favorite

Verstappen already holds eight wins on the season, and there's still half of said season to go! The two races the Dutch driver did lose he still finished second. He's got a death grip over the sport. Don't kid yourself, this is the era of Verstappen. And there's no end in sight.

Verstappen is also the defending Hungary GP champ taking the race last year by nearly nine seconds.

There's really nothing more to say about him. He's the obvious favorite because he's head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

F1 Hungary GP Value Picks

Verstappen is expected to do well here, but at -300 there isn't much value. Here are a few options that would return more value and could upset Verstappen in Mogyorod.

Lewis Hamilton (+1400)

The seven-time World Driver's champion has been virtually helpless as Verstappen takes pole position at the top of the sport. But if Hamilton is going to make the Verstappen sweat, it's in Hungary.

Over his career, the English driver has been dominant in Hungary. He's won this race eight times since 2007, double the next-best driver on this course; some guy named Michael Schumacher. And while Hamilton hasn't won here since 2020, he's been very competitive in 2021 and 2022.

In 2021, he finished third behind Esteban Ocon. But after Vettel was disqualified following the race he was bumped up to second. Hamilton came back all the way from 14th, having had to fight and claw his way through the race. Clearly, he knows how to win here. And perhaps with a better pole position he can take it.

Last year he once again finished second, this time behind Verstappen.

Mercedes and Hamilton know how to win this race. At +1400 you could net $140 on a $10 bet for Hamilton.

George Russell (+2800)

This is a long shot at +2800, but Hamilton's Mercedes teammate George Russell could surprise here. Again, on a technical level, Mercedes knows how to win here.

In 2022, Russell started the race in pole position and finished third behind Verstappen and Hamilton. And let's be honest, Russell conceded that second-place spot to senior teammate and compatriot Hamilton.

The 25-year-old is only growing in experience and his results are starting to get better and better. Russell hasn't finished lower than 7th this season. It's only a matter of time before he wins his second race.

And why not a course his team "owns" and one where he's done well as recently as last year? At +2800 you could create $280 of profit on a $10 bet.
