Safeway Open Odds

Phil Mickelson PGA

It’s only been a few weeks since the last event, but the new PGA Tour season gets underway at the Safeway Open in Napa Valley, California on October 13.

The tournament was highlighted on the schedule due to Tiger Woods announcing he would make his comeback there, but that’s been temporarily put on hold after Eldrick decided he was not ready yet. Don’t let that deter you, however. There are still a ton of great wagering opportunities for golf bettors.

At Bovada, Paul Casey is a +1200 favorite to win the hardware. Matt Kuchar (+1600), Phil Mickelson (+1800), Emiliano Grillo (+1800), Justin Thomas (+1800), Jon Rahm (+2500), Kevin Na (+2800), Bill Haas (+4000), Brendan Steele (+4500) and Jason Kokrak (+4000) round out the top 10 at the shop.

The course is rather narrow and features a plethora of small greens, so accurate players are going to be rewarded this weekend. A strong short game is also vital at the Safeway Open, so stay away from golfers who struggle with the flat stick.

Casey is the favorite in oddsmakers’ eyes, but I’m not sure if he’s worth the price. Even at the age of 39, the Englishman has only one victory under his belt in the United States and he’s making his Safeway Open debut this year.

Give me Mickelson at +1800. The veteran played fantastic golf at the British Open, and his Ryder Cup duel with Sergio Garcia was one for the ages. Lefty is one of the rare athletes who’s managed to defy Father Time, and I like his chances in this scenario.
