WGC-HSBC Champions Odds

The final World Golf Championships event of 2016 gets underway this weekend when a loaded field travels to Shanghai, China for the WGC-HSBC Champions. Participants consist primarily of players who have won the top rated tournaments since the previous WGC-HSBC renewal, as well as leading golfers in the world rankings and PGA Tour money list.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada, it’s a two-man race. Rory McIlroy (+550) and Dustin Johnson (+600) are No. 1 and 2 in odds lists, with Henrik Stenson (+1800), Hideki Matsuyama (+2200), Paul Casey (+2200), Justin Thomas (+2500), Adam Scott (+2500), Patrick Reed (+3000), Sergio Garcia (+3000) and Bubba Watson (+3500) rounding out the top 10.

This is the strongest field the WGC-HSBC has ever seen, as 40 of the top 50 players in the world are confirmed. Russell Knox, who’s +4500 to win the hardware, is the defending champion. Eight of the world’s top 10 players and all of 2016’s major winners will be vying for the title in Asia.

Sheshan International Golf Club is the setting. The course has a daunting number of well-laced bunkers and man-made waterways and has undergone drastic elevation changes in the last few years. In order to do so, work crews moved more than two million cubic yards of earth.

Knox’s victory came when he was 85th in the world rankings – the lowest of the event’s 11 winners and just the second to come from outside the top 30.

Twenty-four entrants are playing both ends of the PGA Tour’s Asian Swing in the wake of last weekend’s CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

Here’s a look at the book’s full list of odds:
