With the United States celebrating the Fourth of July, it looks like the majority of the top players on the PGA Tour decided to make it a weeklong vacation ahead of the Greenbrier Classic. While the elite members of the golfing world won’t be in attendance, there are still plenty of betting opportunities available.
At Sportsbook, Patrick Reed is the +1200 favorite to go all the way. Kevin Kisner (+1400), Bill Haas (+1600), Danny Lee (+2200), David Lingmerth (+2200), Phil Mickelson (+2200), Tony Finau (+2500), Webb Simpson (+2500), Bubba Watson (+2800) and Keegan Bradley (+2800) round out the top 10 at the shop.
Due to extensive flooding, which left parts of the course (The Old White TPC) under three feet of mud, the 2016 edition of the tournament was scrapped. Danny Lee is the remaining champion after hoisting the trophy in 2015 when he triumphed in a four-man playoff to earn his first tour victory.
Mickelson will be in action for the first time since his breakup with longtime caddy Jim “Bones” Mackay, which ended a 25-year partnership. In that span, the duo collected 41 tour victories and five major championships. Mickelson’s brother, Tim, will be on the bag for the remainder of the season. It’s noteworthy that the veteran owns a summer home nearby in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
The Old White TPC is a par-70 which stretches 7,287 yards. The PGA Tour arrived here in 2010 when Stuart Appleby closed things out with a final-round 59 to win the inaugural Greenbrier Classic. After undergoing an extensive restoration process, the course is almost back to the pristine condition it was in before the floods.
