2023 RSM Classic Odds: Ludvig Aberg Favored In Georgia

The final event of the 2023 PGA Tour season takes place this week at the RSM Classic. Traveling to Sea Island, Georgia for the 13th straight season, the PGA Tour will bring a new sense of urgency to the event this time around as players compete for full-time playing privileges and status on the PGA Tour in 2024.

Leading the charge is a man who already has job security in 2024, and that is Ludvig Aberg at +1400. The young Swede arrives in Georgia fresh off seven straight top 15s between the DP World Tour and PGA Tour and has eyes on claiming his first-ever victory in the United States.

He is followed closely by a trio of Americans in Russell Henley at +1600, Cameron Young at +1600 and Brian Harman at +1600. Each of these players had their highs and lows during the 2023 regular season and will hope to put an emphatic end to their calendar year.

For Henley and Harman, the RSM Classic marks their first and only start since the Tour Championship in August. They are not alone in enjoying their offseasons as Corey Conners, Denny McCarthy and Billy Horschel will also be teeing it up in competition for the first time since August.

2023 RSM Classic Betting Picks

Russell Henley (+1600 to win)

There may be some hesitancy to back Henley given his layoff from competition, but the Georgia Bulldog is the best ball striker in the field. Over the last six months, he ranks first in total strokes gained, first in strokes gained tee to green, first in strokes gained approach and ninth in strokes gained around the green.

He tends to play his best golf not only around this time of year, as noted by his win at Mayakoba in 2022, but also in this area of the country.

A Georgia resident, Henley has seen some of the best tournament results in states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and of course, Georgia. At one stage collecting three straight top 10s at the RSM Classic, Henley has proven his game is more than suitable for the test Sea Island Golf Club will present to players.

J.T. Poston (+3000 to win)

This field and tournament scream Poston’s name. The Sea Island resident comes in having made eight straight cuts with four top-25s in his last four tournaments. He shook off the offseason rust with a T-3 finish at the Shriners Children’s Open and should be up for the task of impressing his friends and family in the crowd this week.

He ranks third in total strokes gained over the last six months courtesy of strong efforts both on approach and on the greens which is a perfect recipe for this Tom Fazio design.

J.J. Spaun (+4000 to win)

There are few players in this field as well-rounded as Spaun. The former Texas Open winner ranks 18th in total strokes gained, sixth in strokes gained tee to green and 10th in strokes gained approach over the last six months.

While others have the luxury of coasting to the finish line, Spaun is in need of a stellar week as he is narrowly inside the top 60 of the FedEx Cup that will qualify for the first two signature events of the 2024 season.

He will need at least a top-10 finish to ward off the challengers, but a victory has been in the makings for a while. Enjoying a nice start at the Zozo Championship where he shot all four rounds in the 60s, Spaun should see similar results this week on a similar golf course.

Brendon Todd (+4000 to win)

The former Georgia Bulldog has been one of the few players to consistently play this fall despite finishing inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup.

Todd’s play has been met with nice results as he finished solo sixth at the Fortinet Championship and claimed a top-20 finish at last week’s Bermuda Championship. The reason for Todd’s success is the recent uptick in his iron play which serves as a new skillset in conjunction with his accurate driving and timely putting.

He ranks inside the top 30 in a litany of strokes gained metrics and should have a real chance to capture yet another win on the PGA Tour given his fit for this golf course. Having already claimed a solo fourth at Sea Island Golf Club, Todd will be in the mix come late Sunday.

Harris English (+5000 to win)

The return of English to the leaderboard has been a slow burn, but he appears to be a mainstay moving forward. After undergoing hip surgery, English struggled with his game, but he found his groove over the last six months.

A return to form was highlighted by top 10s at the Wells Fargo Championship, U.S. Open and the BMW Championship. While he has not played since the FedEx Cup Playoffs, English has reportedly been working hard on his craft at Sea Island Golf Club and has this very event circled on his calendar given his ties to the area.

Over the last six months, the former Georgia Bulldog ranks ninth in total strokes gained, 17th in strokes gained tee to green and 12th in strokes gained approach. Capturing a T-6 finish a few starts ago at the RSM Classic, English has figured out this tournament and is ready to get back into the winner’s circle.
