Zurich Classic of New Orleans Odds & Betting Preview

Ready for something different? The Zurich Classic of New Orleans takes on a different look this year in the form of a two-man team event, and oddsmakers across the sports betting industry are celebrating the new look.

At Bovada, Jason Day & Rickie Fowler are the +600 favorites, with Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson (+650), Jordan Spieth & Ryan Palmer (+1000), Daniel Berger & Thomas Pieters (+1400), Branden Grace & Louis Oosthuizen (+1400), Justin Thomas & Bud Cauley (+1600), Bubba Watson & J.B. Holmes (+2200), Hideki Matsuyama & Hideto Tanihara (+2200), Kevin Chappell & Gary Woodland (+2500) and Patrick Reed & Patrick Cantlay (+2800) also near the top of the list.

The new 72-stroke play format features foursomes (alternate shot) in the first and third rounds with four-ball (best ball) during the second and fourth. Eighty teams (160 players) from the PGA Tour Priority Rankings who committed to the tournament chose a partner, who in turn must have Tour status unless already possessing tournament sponsor exemption.

After the conclusion of the second round, the bottom 35 teams will be cut. For a sport that often gets criticized for being too orthodox, this is a fantastic change of pace and a sign that the Tour is open to switching things up from the usual diet of 72-holes individual stroke play.

How much of a difference does a year make? Twelve months ago, only 23 of the world’s top 100 players were in the field but this year there are 24 of the top 50.

The tournament, which takes place at the TPC Louisiana, is built on 250 acres of former swamp land. There are 71 bunkers and a ridiculous 20 acres of the site are covered in sand. Water is in play on eight holes, but this is generally considered an easy course by PGA Tour standards.

Here’s a look at the book’s list of odds. Who are you picking?
