With the Masters in the rear-view mirror, the eyes of the golfing world shift to Hilton Head South Carolina for the RBC Heritage on March 14. When it comes to betting lines, one man stands well ahead of the pack to win it all.
Jason Day is currently a +550 favorite to garner the title at Sportsbook, while Paul Casey (+1600), Brandt Snedeker (+1600), Matt Kuchar (+2000) and Zach Johnson (+2200) make up the five golfers with the likeliest odds to win at the shop.
Jim Furyk won this event last year in a two-hole sudden death playoff over Kevin Kisner. Furyk is doubtful for the tournament after undergoing wrist surgery in February and is reportedly eyeing a return to play in late April or early May. No player has won the event in consecutive years since Boo Weekley accomplished the feat in 2007 and ’08.
Day did not compete in the tournament last year, however, there’s no questioning he’s the most talented golfer in the field. The Australian has already won twice in 2016 after triumphing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Match Play.
Due to the timing of the RBC Heritage, many of the PGA Tour’s top players have chosen to sit out after an exhausting and drama-filled weekend at Augusta National. The RBC Heritage is one of the PGA’s five invitational tournaments, meaning the exclusivity, smaller field and bigger purse make it one of the more prestigious non-major events on the calendar.
Harbour Town Golf Links is a shot maker’s course, so it may be wise to avoid golfers who are mostly renowned for getting great distance off the tee. Strong iron play and excellent putting are a near necessity in order to win here.
