Source: Team USA "An Absolute Lock" At Ryder Cup

You may have noticed that Team USA opened as hefty -190 favorites to win this year’s Ryder Cup at Hazeltine. And there’s a good reason for it.

A source close to the PGA told me this week that he sees USA as “an absolute lock” to win.

“Team USA is young, driven with good camaraderie. They are like a big fraternity these days. Europe has become quite disjointed. Most of the players play in the States now and they have six rookies,” says the insider.

If he’s right, this marks a turning point in the event. The Ryder Cup has been less of a competition and more of a European beatdown in recent history. Europe has claimed the Cup three times in a row and in eight of the last 10 attempts.

Team chemistry has been heralded as the leading reason for Europe’s success, despite the fact Team USA led after the team portion of the competition in three of the last four Ryder Cups.

“If it were in Europe, I would say Europe has a chance. But they’ll get dominated up there in Minnesota in front of a massive, hostile crowd.”

You can get Europe at +190 if you want to take a swing, and the draw pays 11-1. There are also better-paying props on the favorite such as USA to win by 1-3 points at +275 or 4-6 points at +360. It’s sounding like one of those is the way to go if you don’t want to lay the hefty price tag on the home side.

“Minus-190 is still a shocking price,” says the source. “Maybe look to back USA Friday evening if Europe hangs in there on Day 1.”
