Hawaii Bowl Odds Preview

The Nevada Wolf Pack ran wild during the regular season and the latest Hawaii Bowl odds expect them to run over the SMU Mustangs on Christmas Eve.

Nevada -15 vs. SMU, OU 73.5 at Bovada
8 pm EST, December 24, 2009, Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI

The Wolf Pack were 7-1 in the WAC this season with their only loss coming against BCS Bowlers Boise State. Nevada actually met up with the Broncos in their final game of the season and the loss snapped an eight-game winning streak. They’ll look to rebound in the Hawaii Bowl as a 15-point favorite at Bovada

The Mustangs earned their way into a Hawaii Bowl spot by winning three of their final four games. They’re pretty big underdogs (15 points on the spread) in the bowl game, but don’t immediately count them out, as they were 3-1 ATS when listed as a double-digit dog this season.

The Wolf Pack (8-4 SU, 7-5 ATS) offense lives by the run and they boasted the top running game in the nation during the regular season, averaging 362.3 yards per game on the ground. Nevada quarterback Colin Kaeprnick threw 19 touchdown passes, but he was even more dangerous on the ground with 1160 rushing yards and 16 TDs. Running back Vai Taua finishes off the one-two punch with 1345 rushing yards and 10 TDs.

The Mustangs (7-5 SU, 6-2 ATS) will have their hands full trying to slow down the Nevada rushing attack. SMU had the No. 6 ranked defense in the Conference-USA this season, but they weren’t very strong against the run, allowing 169.2 yards per game and 22 touchdowns in 12 games.

Hawaii Bowl History

Last year in Honolulu Notre Dame faced Hawaii and ripped the Warriors 49-21. The Fighting Irish pulled off an upset as a 2.5-point underdog. The score went OVER the posted total of 49 and that was the sixth time the score has gone OVER in the last seven Hawaii Bowls.

Nevada last played in the Hawaii Bowl in 2005 when they defeated Central Florida, but failed to cover the spread. This will be the Mustangs first Hawaii Bowl appearance.
