Belmont Stakes betting history

Belmont is the longest of the Triple Crown races and it's not really surprising that some longshots have won in recent years. The 1.5-mile track has demoralized many favorites who are not bred for the stamina of such a long race.

Upset specialists like Birdstone in 2004, Sarava (a huge 70-1 bet in 2002), and Da'Tara at 40-1 in 2008 are just a few of the longshots to win in New York. Very seldom does the favorite win at Belmont.
