Kentucky Derby: Mubtaahij Betting Odds

While he may not be one of the most well-known horses in the Kentucky Derby field, Mubtaahij is a bit of a wild card for the first race of the Triple Crown at Churchill Downs on Saturday. The Irish-bred three-year-old bay colt earned an impressive eight-length win in the $2 million UAE Derby in Dubai on March 28, serving notice that he will be one to watch in Louisville.

Previously listed as high as 9/1 to win the Kentucky Derby following that dominant victory – which was tied for the fourth choice with Materiality on April 15 behind American Pharoah, Dortmund and Carpe Diem – Mubtaahij appears to have some value at his current odds.

Mubtaahij comes from one of the world’s top trainers in Michael de Kock, who has enjoyed a ton of success overseas, including in his native South Africa.

Many consider Mubtaahij to be a mystery horse in this stacked Kentucky Derby field with owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and jockey Christophe Soumillion. However, he would not be here if he did not belong and could be a nice sleeper pick.
