He didn’t win the Kentucky Derby, but he’s still the favorite as the Triple Crown’s second jewel is contested Saturday in the Preakness Stakes.

Bodemeister ran very well but was nipped as the wire by I’ll Have Another, who is the second betting choice to have another jewel in the Triple Crown by late Saturday.

Bodemeister is currently 8/5 odds, with the Derby Sportsbook close behind at 5/2. They seem to be the class of the field, with Creative Cause and Went The Day Well the biggest threats. [ Check out Preakness prop bets as well ]

“He set sharp early fractions and held on gamely in the loss and all indications are the Bob Baffert trainee is going to be the betting favorite Saturday,” racing expert Michael Dempsey said of Bodemeister.

And while his race card has not yet been fully handicapped (check him later this week for his best picks), he is closely watching Creative Cause.

“He is flying under the radar and will likely offer us some betting value,” he said, after watching the colt close quickly on the lead at Churchill Downs.

Among the longshots is Cozetti, who is worthy of betting investigation, because he’s from ythe same stable that saddled last year’s Sportsbook, Shackleford. Cozetti is 30/1 odds, joining Optimizer and Pretension as the early longshot bids.

Numerous horses have won the Preakness after the Derby, but none since Affirmed in 1978 has pulled off the triple.
