Inter takes Italian Serie A lead

Last night, in a dominating performance, Inter Milan beat AS Roma 4-0 to take the outright lead in Italian Serie A.

Udinese and Lazio could have stayed even with the giants from Milan, but Udinese and Lecce played to a 2-2 draw and Lazio were beaten handily 3-1 at Bologna.

Only 5 minutes into the match Inter’s goal scoring machine, Zlatan Ibrahimović, won a race for a long ball and lobbed the ball over the Roma goalie for a quick 1-0 lead. Ibrahimović netted his second goal just before halftime after an easy finish on a brilliant pass from Sulley Muntani.

Dejan Stankovic and Victor Obinna scored on sweet shots from the edge of the penalty box only 2 minutes apart in the beginning of the second half in the 54th and 56th minute.

Inter remains in the lead 2 points clear of Udinese, Lazio, and Catania, who beat their Sicilian rival Palermo yesterday 2-0. Watch out for AS Milan, as they are only 3 points back of Inter.

Ronaldinho looks like the player he was before lethargy and mysterious injuries spelled his demise in Barcelona, as he netted 2 goals yesterday in Milan’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria.

Roma is having major problems in Italian Serie A, as even though they are currently doing well in the Champions League they are only in the 14th position in their domestic league. After 7 games played in the league Roma only has 7 points, to Inter Milan’s 16, and have only scored 8 goals while giving up 12.

Things do not get any easier for Roma, as on Wednesday in their Champions League match they travel to England to play Chelsea, who beat Middlesbrough 5-0 away and sit atop the Premier League standings.

Meanwhile Inter hosts the Greek club Anorthosis. Next week in the Italian Serie A Roma travels to play 2nd place Udinese and Inter hosts Genoa.
