Liverpool atop English table, leading EPL odds
Liverpool FC took a three-point lead in the Premiership after a 5-1 drubbing of Newcastle United on Sunday. Chelsea could have stayed only one-point back, but they played to a 2-2 draw against Fulham FC.
In the day’s early game Liverpool looked sharp and could have put the game away early if it was not for the stellar play, in the first half, of Newcastle goalie Shay Given.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute and then Sami Hyypia struck in the 36th minute to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead. Newcastle’s David Edgar found the back of the twine just before halftime in the 45th minute to cut the lead in half.
In the second half it was all Liverpool, as Ryan Babel made it 3-1 in the 50th minute, Gerrard scored his second goal of the game in the 66th minute, and substitute Xabi Alonso connected on a penalty in the 76th minute for a 5-1 lead, which is how the game would end.
Liverpool dominated the game, as they out-shot Newcastle 25-12 and led in time of possession 59% to 41%.

EPL odds - Chelsea Fails to Keep Pace with Liverpool
Chelsea could have stayed on the heels of Liverpool only 1-point behind the league leaders, but gave up a last-minute goal to Fulham for a 2-2 draw. Such is the nature of soccer betting.
Fulham took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Clint Dempsey scored the lone goal in the first half in the 10th minute. In the second half Frank Lampard netted two goals for Chelsea and it looked like the 2-1 lead would hold, but Dempsey scored his second goal of the game heading in a corner cross in the 89th minute to secure the draw.
In looking at the stats of the game it would seem Chelsea should have won easily, as they had 24 shots and Fulham only had 5. For the game Fulham only had 2 shots on target, to Chelsea’s 8, and scored on both of them.
