Greinke’s Road Splits Make D-Backs a Risky Play

Two teams competing for wild-card spots in their respective leagues will match up again tonight after the hometown Twins took Game 1 against the D-backs with a comfortable seven-run cushion. Arizona hasn’t been great on the road (28-32) but Zack Greinke and his 14-5 record make the Snakes the moneyline faves in Minneapolis.

SHARK BITES
  • 4 of Zack Greinke’s 5 losses this season have come in road starts.
  • The Diamondbacks are 0-3 SU in their last 3 games as road favorites.
  • Jose Berrios has given up 11 earned runs in his last 8.1 innings of work.

Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano did most of the damage for the Twinks last night, with the former finishing a single shy of the cycle but it’s Buxton’s famous defense that might have to be displayed tonight if Jose Berrios keeps it up. The young hurler has been awful in the second half after a splendid beginning to 2017 and he’s accumulated a 6.18 ERA since the all-star break.

His overall numbers would indicate that he’s been much better at Target Field, though, so expect the 23-year-old to rebound in front of his home crowd.

Given the Twins’ value on home turf – and how poorly Greinke pitches on the road – Minnesota is worth a look as it goes for the interleague series win.
