Indians Have Been Runline Darlings During Franchise-Best Winning Streak

Doing last year’s team one better, the Cleveland Indians won a 15th straight game last night, beating the franchise record for consecutive wins that the team set in 2016 en route to an American League pennant. They’ll begin a 10-game homestand this evening with a series against the Orioles in which the red-hot Tribe will be favored in every contest.

SHARK BITES
  • During their 15-game winning streak, the Indians are 14-1 on the runline.
  • The last team to win 15 straight games was the 2002 Oakland Athletics.
  • Opposing lineups own a .585 OPS against Cleveland pitchers in September.

With a winning margin of 5.4 during their streak, it’s tough to picture the Indians losing right now, especially when they face pitchers like Wade Miley (8-11, 4.91 ERA). Batters currently in the Indians lineup own a combined .348 average against the lefty in 89 at-bats and Edwin Encarnacion is 6-for-13 vs Miley with two home runs and seven walks.

In Miley’s lone meeting with the Tribe this season, he was torched for four runs in five innings back in June and he was pegged with a loss in a 6-3 Indians triumph.

Mike Clevinger (8-5, 3.50 ERA), who’s working on a 12-inning shutout streak, will go for the Indians on Friday looking to improve some pretty ugly home numbers. The long-haired righty has a 4.70 ERA in 10 appearances at Progressive Field this year but he’s been much better of late and limited the Royals to four hits and no runs in his last start on home turf.

If Cleveland’s staff continues to pitch like it has (1.88 ERA in September), the Tribe will be a tough team to beat in the postseason and there’s no telling when this streak could end.
