Sox are Starting to Take Care of Business in the AL East

Thirteen games remain on the Red Sox schedule and they still have some work to do to clinch the AL East. Their three-game lead over the Yankees is significant but they’ve got a tough matchup on the docket at Camden Yards and nothing is guaranteed. The Orioles are not an easy team to beat at home and with the playoffs still – distantly – in reach for them, you can be sure they’ll be swinging for the fences.

SHARK BITES
  • Baltimore is hitting just .215 as a team in the month of September.
  • The Orioles are 0-5 SU in their last 5 games when Sportsbook a series.
  • The Red Sox are 6-2 SU in their last 8 games against their division.

While a bad 10-game stretch has limited hope to a barely visible glimmer, the Orange Birds of Baltimore would love nothing more than to spoil the Red Sox’ claim at a second straight division title. For the most part this season, the O’s have been obliging, beating the Sox three consecutive times and in six of their last eight meetings.

Buck Showalter will rely on Dylan Bundy (13-9, 4.03 ERA) tonight and the skipper should be confident considering the 24-year-old owns a 2.49 ERA in four starts against Boston this season. Bundy has been a bit shaky in September but is coming off a dominant performance vs the Blue Jays in which he was pegged with a tough-luck loss.

The Crimson Hose will counter with an up-and-down Doug Fister (5-8, 4.40 ERA). The eight-year vet has been incredibly polarizing since his arrival in Boston but he’s been much better away from Fenway.

There’s little chance tonight’s game boils down to a pitching duel, though, and the Sox offense has the clear edge as it’s outscored the O’s by 30 runs this month.
