Pomeranz Still Looking for First Win as Member of Red Sox

The Red Sox will try to salvage a series split with the Mariners tonight, a day after Big Papi David Ortiz was honored with a 34 lb. fish delivered to him by Seattle fishmongers as part of his farewell tour. Drew Pomeranz (8-9, 3.09 ERA) is still looking for his first win in a BoSox uniform and will face Cuban international Ariel Miranda in the effort.

SHARK BITES
  • The Red Sox are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games against the American League.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of the Red Sox' last 7 games on the road against the Mariners.
  • The Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 games.

If you’ve never heard the name Ariel Miranda, you are in the majority. The 27-year-old Cuban, who was part of the Wade Miley trade, will make his first ever major league start tonight after posting a 13.50 ERA in two relief appearances with the Orioles. He posted decent numbers in Cuba and has a 3.93 ERA in 19 starts in Triple-A this year.

Boston is having no luck with their pitcher acquisitions lately, shelling out prospects and millions of dollars for hurlers who have not panned out. Drew Pomeranz is part of that conversation as he has given up 12 earned runs through his first three starts with his new club.

The lefty has generally been very solid on the road with a 2.87 ERA this year and will hope to get things back on track tonight.
