Braves Have Been a Great Bet in Series Openers

A summer that’s seen the Cubs overvalued at every turn will continue today when the defending World Series champs take their act to Atlanta. Chicago opened as the -144 moneyline favorite for the first game against the Braves and if you’re a bit skeptical of the line, you’re not alone.

SHARK BITES
  • The Braves are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games when Sportsbook a series.
  • The Cubs are 9-3 SU in their last 12 games against the Braves.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of the Cubs' last 13 games on the road.

Finally getting over the .500 bump in their last contest, the Cubs have been one of the biggest disappointments of 2017 and other than the Giants, they’ve been the least profitable team in baseball. The Braves, on the other hand, have tomahawk-chopped their way to a .500 record just a season after winning 68 games.

They’ll call upon ace righty Julio Teheran (7-6, 4.79 ERA) in the series opener to duel with Jon Lester (5-6, 4.25 ERA) as the lefty tries to put that infamous 10-run inning in the rear-view mirror.

Through 108 innings this season, though, Lester has shown no evidence to prove he can duplicate his standout 2016. The southpaw has allowed three or more runs in six of his last nine starts and he’s been awful on the road with an ERA close to 5.

Atlanta is offering some decent value this evening with their most talented pitcher taking the mound and if you’re someone who likes plus-money picks as much as OddsShark’s own Joe Osborne, you’ll be all over the Braves in this one.
