Their nine-game win streak may have ended on Sunday but the Indians have broken into full stride at the perfect time with a tough stretch of games in front of them. They’ll open up a series against the slumping Red Sox this evening and they’ll be favorites for the Beantown affair.
Not having played since the Indians swept their American League Division Series last October, the Red Sox still have unfinished business with the Tribe. They may, however, have to wait for vengeance with Doug Fister (0-5, 7.46 ERA) taking the mound for the Crimson Hose.
Since being picked up off waivers, Fister has been less than impressive. In three appearances in front of the Fenway faithful, the 33-year-old righty has put together an ugly 8.31 ERA in just 13 innings of work.
Cleveland will call upon Mike Clevinger in the icebreaker with the second-year man working on a nice little 2.15 ERA in seven starts away from Believeland this year. He was roughed up in his last outing but the Red Sox’ offense is having fits, hitting just .227 over Boston’s last six games.
