Death, Taxes and Rockies vs D-Backs Going Over

The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks have flipped the NL West on its head to open the season with the two perennial bottom-feeders sitting atop the division. Bettors hope that not everything has been turned upside down, as the OVER has hit in each of the past 11 contests between the Rockies and D-backs entering their three-game series Friday.

Shark Bites
  • The Diamondbacks are 15-3 SU in their last 18 games at home.
  • The Rockies are 0-5 SU and against the runline in their last 5 games against the Diamondbacks.
  • The total has gone OVER in the Rockies' last 4 games.

Kyle Freeland, who will get his fifth start of the season for the Rockies on Friday, has been inconsistent. The Colorado native has looked stellar at times but has also failed to make it out of the fifth inning twice through his first four outings. However, Freeland has boasted the best possible ability for a pitcher on the Rockies staff, the ability to induce ground balls.

The D-backs will send Robbie Ray to the bump for the fifth time this season, all of which have come against NL West opponents. Ray has been a steady, reliable arm, as the lefty has allowed four or fewer hits in three of his four outings. Ray’s last start was easily his worst of the season but he got 12 runs of support from his team.

Charlie Blackmon has cemented himself as one of the most consistent hitters in baseball with the center-fielder recording at least one hit in 17 of the past 18 games, including each of the past 12. Plenty of the D-backs’ bats have been contributing but none more so than AJ Pollock. Pollock has gone 20-for-44 with 11 runs in his past 10 games.
