Rockies are Struggling as Road Dogs

It’s becoming impossible to predict what the Mets will do on a night-to-night basis and yesterday’s 14-2 beatdown of the Rockies is a good example of that after they went just 39-47 in the first half. They’ll likely close as slight home faves this evening but if the Mets want to cash out for their backers, they’ll have to get to one of the best road hurlers in baseball.

SHARK BITES
  • The Mets are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games at Citi Field.
  • The total has gone UNDER in all of Tyler Chatwood’s last 4 starts on the road.
  • The Rockies are 1-9 SU in their last 10 games as road underdogs.

Coors Field is known for its volatile pitching conditions and no one knows that better than Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood (6-10, 4.42 ERA). At home, he’s 2-5 with an ERA over 6. On the road, he’s limited opposing lineups to a .196 batting average. He’ll look to bring some more of that road stuff tonight when he faces a Mets team that assaulted Jon Gray the night before.

Seth Lugo will get the ball for the home team tonight as he tries to build on a season that’s seen him regress violently. The 27-year-old had a terrific debut season with New York but he hasn’t been able to replicate his results in 2017.

The Mets’ climb back up the standings will have to be keyed by starting pitching and Lugo will be a big part of the effort whichever way their journey goes.
