Dodgers at Giants MLB Pick
The Giants are the home favorites tonight against the Dodgers in Game 1 of a big series of a couple of teams that are chasing the San Diego Padres in the NL West.
L.A. Dodgers (54-48) at San Francisco Giants (58-45)
Sportsbook.com has the Giants at -195 with the Dodgers are at +170 with a run total of 7.
The Dodgers really need to start winning to stay in the race in the NL West, as they are 7 back of the Padres. The Dodgers recently lost 2 of 3 to the Padres and they are only 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Giants are playing well and even though they are coming off a loss they are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they trail San Diego by 3.5 games.
In their last games yesterday the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres 3-2 and the Giants lost to the Florida Marlins 5-0.
This season the Giants are 30-20 at home and the Dodgers are 22-27 on the road.
The Dodgers were only two games out of first place in the NL West at the All Star break, but they have struggled since and are now seven out. L.A. ‘s staff has kept up their part of the bargain pitching well, but the Dodgers’ offense has only scored 30 runs in their last 14 games. Manager Joe Torre put it bluntly when he stated, “We have to start hitting.”
On the other hand the Giants’ offense, which is their weakness, has shown signs of life this month, as they have gone 18-7 in July and have averaged 5.6 runs per game in that span.
Tim Lincecum (10-4 3.12 ERA) is on the mound tonight for the Giants and in his last start he went eight innings and only gave up two earned runs in a no decision. On the hill for the Dodgers is Carlos Monasterios (3-2 3.30 ERA) and in his last outing he went five innings giving up no earned runs in a no decision.
Lincecum is 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA in nine career games versus the Dodgers, but was roughed up in his last start against them earlier this season. Monasterios has been a starter and in the bullpen this season and he is looking for his second straight solid start.
L.A.’s James Loney, Matt Kemp, Rafael Furcal and Russell Martin are hitting a combined .129 (9 for 70) against Lincecum.
L.A. is 5-2 in Monasterios' last seven starts and San Francisco is 4-0 in Lincecum’s last four starts.
San Francisco is 17-5 in their last 22 games and 6-2 in their last eight games against teams with a winning record. L.A. is 1-6 in their last seven road games and is 0-5 in their last five games as a road underdog.
Pick: The Dodgers’ offense is struggling and they will continue to do so against Lincecum tonight. The Giants’ offense will play well and score a few runs, as they will beat the Dodgers and take Game 1 of this series.
