Fredi Gonzalez Atlanta Braves MLB

Gonzalez Favored to be 1st Manager Fired

The baseball season is a long, grueling one but the lifespan of a baseball manager can be the exact opposite: short and not-so-sweet. We are just 10 games (give or take) into the regular season and you can already place a wager on who you think will be the first manager to get the axe.

Online shop Sportsbook has introduced a prop on just that and it is Fredi Gonzalez of the Atlanta Braves that leads the way at EVEN odds.

As of Friday, the Braves were still searching for their first win as they bring an 0-9 record into the weekend series with the Miami Marlins. It is perhaps harsh on Gonzalez as the Braves hardly feature a roster that can compete on the level of, say, the Chicago Cubs.

Gonzalez has been the manager in Atlanta since the 2011 season and was able to lead the Braves to the playoffs in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Elsewhere on the board, the Minnesota Twins are also winless (as of Friday) and manager Paul Molitor is next at +250. Considering the lineup boasts young talent like Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and Byung Ho Park as well as vets like Joe Mauer, Trevor Plouffe and Brian Dozier, the 14 runs scored by the Twinkies are currently sitting on is inexcusable.

The Twins will look to get the bats rolling as they begin a three-game set at home versus the Los Angeles Angels Friday night.

Who will be the first Manager fired in the regular season?
  • Fredi Gonzalez (Braves) EVEN
  • Paul Molitor (Twins) +250
  • Walt Weiss (Rockies) +400
  • Terry Collins (Mets) +800
  • Joe Girardi (Yankees) +1000
  • Mike Scioscia (Angels) +1200
  • Don Mattingly (Marlins) +2500
