Astros Are Cruising into October

The final Lone Star Series of the season kicks off tonight when the AL West champion Astros take on a desperate Rangers team that’s down to its final few outs. The Rangers, 5.5 games back of the Twins for the final playoff spot, basically need to win out to have a chance at October.

SHARK BITES
  • The Astros are 2-11 SU in their last 13 games on the road against teams with losing records.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of the Astros’ last 10 games.
  • The Rangers are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games when Sportsbook a series.

Gauging the motivation level of teams that have already clinched is tough, but with just a handful of games remaining until the playoffs for the Astros (8-2 in their last 10), it’s unlikely they let off the gas pedal – especially with the chance to play spoiler to a division rival.

They’ll send Collin McHugh (3-2, 3.44 ERA) to the hill in the effort and he’ll be looking for another performance like the one he had the last time he faced the Rangers. While he lasted just 4.1 innings that contest, he limited Texas to just one run in a 5-1 Astros win. McHugh’s road splits aren’t great (1-2, 5.28 ERA) but he’s been a more than serviceable starter since the all-star break.

Texas native Andrew Cashner (10-10, 3.44 ERA) goes for the Rangers also trying to replicate a good result against his opponent. While he owns a 4.06 ERA in five starts vs the Astros this season, Cashner limited them to one run over eight innings when he last faced them and he’ll have to dial up something similar to keep his team in contention this evening.
