L.A. Freeway Series Preview

Interleague play resumes with the red hot L.A. Dodgers home favorites tonight in the first game of the Freeway Series against the L.A. Angels.

L.A. Angels (33-30) at L.A. Dodgers (36-24)

Bovada opened the Dodgers posted at -165 with the Angels at +145 with a run total of 8.5.

The Dodgers are the hottest team in baseball, as they have won four straight, are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and are in first place in the NL West with a slight one game lead over the San Diego Padres.


The Angels have been playing great as well, as even though they are coming off a loss, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are in second place in the AL West 1.5 games back of the Texas Rangers.

This season the Dodgers are 23-10 at home, which is the best home record in the Majors, and the Angels are 17-17 on the road.

The Angels have won two of the last three Freeway Series’ played at Dodgers Stadium.

The Dodgers have gone 9-2 in their 11-game home-stand and in that span their staff has an ERA of 2.67 and opponents are only hitting .217.

In their last games the Angels lost to the Oakland A’s 6-1 yesterday and the Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Wednesday, which completed a three game sweep.

Taking the mound for the Dodgers tonight is their ace Chad Billingsley (6-3 3.80 ERA), who in his last outing game up three earned runs in six innings of work in a loss. Joel Pineiro (4-6 5.23 ERA) is on the hill for the Angels and in his last start game up four earned runs in six innings in a win.

Billingsley is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA in his last six starts and is 1-2 against the Angels even though he only has an ERA of 2.89.

Pineiro is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers.

The Angels are 1-4 in Pineiro’s last five road starts and Dodgers are 5-1 in Billingsley’s last six starts.

The Angels’ pitching has been their weakness this season, as they have given up the third most runs in the AL.

In the last five games between these two teams the total has gone Over four times.

In Game 2 tomorrow night John Ely (3-2 3.00 ERA) is slated to start for the Dodgers and Scott Kazmir (5-5 5.41 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Angels. In the series finale on Sunday afternoon reliever Carlos Monasterios (0-0 2.17 ERA) is set to start for the injured Vincent Padilla and Jered Weaver (5-3 3.20 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Angels.
