The Los Angeles Angels haven’t been in contention for the AL West all year long thanks to the success of the Houston Astros, but they’re on the verge of missing the postseason altogether with the final wild-card spot slipping away. The Halos will try to stay in the race when they do battle with the Astros today.
Sportsbook opened the Angels as +143 road underdogs with a total of nine.
Tyler Skaggs and Lance McCullers Jr. will get the nod for the Angels and Astros, respectively. Skaggs (2-6, 4.30 ERA) is 1-5 since coming off the disabled list on August 5. The hurler’s only win since coming off the DL came on September 13 when he blanked Houston over seven innings. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has been sharp against Skaggs, as the diminutive infielder is 5-for-14 in his career when facing him.
McCullers Jr. (7-3, 3.97) is set to make his first start since September 6 due to arm fatigue. The outing will be just his second since July 30 when he suffered a back injury. McCullers Jr. is winless over his last six appearances and did not factor into the decision in his last turn against Seattle three weeks ago.
Houston has quietly become a fantastic UNDER bet of late. In the Astros’ last six, the UNDER is a perfect 6-0.
