What’s wrong with the Los Angeles Dodgers? While I say that more than a little ironically, Dem Bums have lost three straight games now and they’re quickly losing sight of the 116-46 record needed to tie the mark of the 2001 Seattle Mariners and 1906 Cubs for the most wins in an MLB season.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (5-6, 3.34 ERA) will help try to get the train back on the tracks tonight when he takes the bump against Robbie Ray (10-5, 3.06 ERA) and the Snakes. While that’s a great name for an ’80s cover band, the combo has not been particularly effective since the end of June as the D-backs have won just two games in Ray’s last six starts.
The lefty was, however, very sharp in his return from the disabled list less than a week ago and his 3.63 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers this season is more than respectable.
Ryu and the Dodgers, though, have gone together like peanut butter and jelly. Los Angeles has won nine of its last 10 starts with the South Korean southpaw on the hill as he’s given up a total of just four runs through his last 30 innings pitched.
The Dodgers opened as small favorites and that seems like good value considering the chalky prices they’ve been offered at the last few weeks.
