It’s too bad that, with the baseball season entering the stretch run and so many intriguing races unfolding, all eyes are focused on the Alex Rodriguez PED-infused soap opera.
And, of course, you can bet on it.
released a pair of specials on Rodriguez’s future this week:
Will Alex Rodriguez play for the Yankees in the 2015 Regular Season? Yes +100 / No -140
Will Alex Rodriguez have his 211-game suspension reduced upon appeal? Yes -200 / No +150
Rodriguez is allowed to play during his appeal process and suited up Monday for the Yankees against the White Sox.
More importantly, there are some fascinating races for the major awards.
Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer (4/7) and the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw have emerged as the favorites to win the AL and NL Cy Young awards, respectively.
The MVP race has narrowed in both leagues. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is a heavy 1/5 favorite to repeat as AL MVP. Baltimore’s Chris Davis and the Angels' Mike Trout are the only other two candidates listed.
The National League MVP battle is a little more wide open, with the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen a 5/7 favorite ahead of the Reds’ Joey Votto, Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt, and Milwaukee’s Carlos Gomez.
The AL Rookie of the Year race is down to Tampa Bay rookie pitcher Wil Myers vs. the Field. Myers is a 1/3 favorite over any other player.
There are multiple candidates left for the NL MVP, but Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig is the frontrunner (4/7). The Marlins’ Jose Fernandez and the Cardinals’ Shelby Miller are both in the mix at 3/1.
