Severino Looks to Dominate a Struggling Orioles Offense

In his first season as a full-time major leaguer, Luis Severino (3-2, 3.11 ERA) has been terrific from the Yankees’ bump. It’s taken a bit for the once-touted prospect to deliver on his potential but with 61 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched in 2017, the 23-year-old righty looks like he’s here to stay. Severino will take the hill opposite Chris Tillman (1-1, 4.43) this evening, looking to put a shaky start in his last appearance at Camden Yards behind him.

SHARK BITES
  • The Orioles are 0-6 SU in their last 6 games against right-handed starting pitchers.
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of the Yankees' last 7 games against the Orioles.
  • Chris Tillman gave up 3 home runs in 3 starts against the Yankees last year.

Breaking a seven-game losing streak in a 3-2 win in their series opener with the Yanks last night, the Orioles didn’t necessarily fix the problems that have been plaguing their offense. They’ve scored an average of just two runs per game in their last 6 contests and if their hitting woes continue this evening, they’ll be in trouble. The O's have struggled against righty pitching of late and with a roster that features just three left-handed bats, it’s unlikely that their offensive issues are solved against Severino.

Tillman, who’s given up three or more runs in all but one of his four appearances this season, has made just one quality start so far. That said, the total has gone UNDER in every game he’s pitched in as the bleeding has normally stopped when he’s been relieved.

Both Baltimore and New York have bullpens that operate in the upper echelon of the American League so if both starters perform to their abilities, this game has an excellent shot at staying UNDER its Sportsbook total of 9.
