NL Rookie of Year Odds: Yasiel Puig?
One week ago, Yasiel Puig was a bulky Double A outfielder toiling in relative anonymity, despite his Cuban defector status.
Today, he was installed as the second betting choice in NL rookie of the year odds after a scintalling eight days that has seen him hit .500, slug .938, and wallop four homers while driving in 10 runs.
If that sounds like ROY material, it is. But it's only eight days, hence the reason why Bovada sensibly continues to have Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller atop the betting chart.
"This has been an amazing start and it has really revitalized the Dodgers fan base, but there's no way it can continue - can it?" said Dave Harrison of OddsShark.com.
Miller was drafted in the first round of 2009 and made his debut last fall. This year, the power righty has been terrific for St. Louis. He is even odds to win the NL ROY.
Puig opened at 3/2 odds, while fellow Dodgers rookie Hyun-Jim Ryu is the next choice at 5/1.
The Top 6 prospects are rounded out by Marcell Ozuna of the Marlins, Jed Gyorko of the Padres, and Julio Teheran of Atlanta.
Check out the current odds and expect them to shift again if Puig continues his torrid start.
