Like OVERs? Bet The NL Central

You may not have noticed, but as of April 28 the top three run producing teams in baseball are the St. Louis Cardinals (137 runs), Chicago Cubs (123) and Pittsburgh Pirates (119).

All NL Central squads. All driving in runs like they have a slugging DH in the order.

The Cincinnati Reds are in the middle of the pack of MLB at 15th (89) while the Milwaukee Brewers tumble a little further down the list at 21st with 79 runs. But those two squads also lay claim to terrible pitching and the Brewers rank second worst in team ERA in the majors (5.49) while the Reds are third-worst (5.45). Only the Colorado Rockies have a higher ERA this season (5.93).

The Reds have also given up the most home runs in the majors (39) while Pirates pitchers have surrendered the third-most (32). When you combine the Pirates' pitching with their run support, it's not hard to see why no team has played OVER the total more often this season (15 times).

Add it all up and you have one hell of an OVER division when it comes to betting totals. The OVER/UNDER is 50-26-3 in games involving an NL Central team this season. That’s a winning percentage for the OVER of 65.8.

And this isn’t just a few teams doing all the damage. Every team in this division has a profitable OVER record this season. Take a look at the O/U records by squad:

NL Central OVER/UNDER Records (April 28)
TeamO/U
Chicago Cubs11-8-1
Pittsburgh Pirates15-7-0
St. Louis Cardinals14-7-0
Cincinnati Reds13-7-2
Milwaukee Brewers12-7-1

The Pirates (.378), Cards (.362) and Cubs (.356) also lead the majors in on-base percentage so I'm not sure we'll see the scoring slow down soon.

Keep an eye on this one - it will be interesting to see if this trend continues for this division as the season goes on.
