Prince Fielder: Tigers Odds Improve
On Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers were a 14/1 longshot to win the 2012 World Series.
Their starting catcher Victor Martinez blew out his ACL and nobody expected Justin Verlander would be able to carry the team like in 2011.
Then Prince Fielder signed for the princely sum of $214 million over nine years and suddenly the Tigers were 9/1 odds.
Detroit will still chase the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox for the shortest odds in the AL, with the Texas Rangers and Anaheim Angels pushing hard with their offseason signings of Yu Darvish and Albert Pujols respectively.
And with Fielder in his daddy’s old stomping grounds (Cecil played for years in Detroit), there is a dynamic pairing in the batting order with slugger Miguel Cabrera. That has sparked a handful of Prince Fielder prop odds over at Bovada.
If he can approach the numbers projected here by the Bovada oddsmakers, he’ll be worth the money. His home run total was set at 36.5 and his RBI count at 120.5.
And after his Milwaukee teammate Ryan Braun won the NL MVP this year, he is a 7/1 bet to win the AL MVP in 2012.
